Original Sin

By James Como - New York, New York, USA - 1 June 2013

Things just don't line up:
my left eye with my right,
my hands with either,
my knees with my hips,
my gums with my lips,
my nostrils, neither,
my brain with my sight.
Things just don't line up.

Cognition with recollection,
appetite with moderation,
patience with ambition,
persistence with gratification,
ability with recognition,
effort with satisfaction,
sticker price with redemption,
sacrifice with salvation.

"You lack faith," she says,
"keep life simple."
But timing isn't rhyming,
and simple isn't easy.
Things just don't line up.
